4-H students between the ages of 12-18 can enroll in the Veterinary Science Program and have 3-5 years to complete it depending on preference. This program gives students interested in the veterinary pathway the opportunity to gain experience as well as become a certified veterinary assistant (CVA). Students who complete the program will earn a veterinary assistant certificate; and upon completion of the program, they will have the opportunity to take the exam through Texas Veterinary Medical Association to become a CVA. To complete the program students will need to complete 200 hours (100 lessons) and a minimum of 225 hours of hands-on clinical skill hours with a licensed technician or DVM.
